In half crushed morocco with marbled paper to the boards. With a frontispiece depicting the fall of the Mynach. This work on South Wales was written by English physician and antiquarian George Lipscomb. Lipscomb is best known for his county history of Buckinghamshire, the location he grew up in. Lipscomb wrote a few works documenting his journeys through locations such as Cornwall and the Coast of kent. This work details his journeys through South Wales. CONDITION In half crushed morocco with paper boards. Externally sound with rubbing to the boards, spine and extremities and loss to the leather to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Front hinge starting but firm. Marks, spotting, booksellers stamp and bookplates from one 'James Taylor Esq' to the pastedowns and a bookplate belonging to a 'Rev Edward Tayleur' to the front pastedown. Internally firmly bound with spotting, tidemarks to the front few pages and offsetting to the title page and blanks. Loss to the extremities of page 251.     I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.
