F. Salter's popular guide to angling. First published in 1814, this edition is greatly enlarged and features a number of further plates. Illustrated with a portrait frontispiece, eight plates, folding map, vignette title page and further in-text illustrations. Collated, complete. Salter discusses the capture of pong, river and sea fish, alongside a 'treatise on trolling', discussion of apparatus, and section dedicated to fly-fishing. With the armorial bookplate of George Henry Cornewall to the front pastedown. A delightfully illustrated early nineteenth century angler's guide. CONDITION In a half calf binding, with gilt detailing to boards. Rubbing to back strip head and tail and joints, resulting in losses to leather. Front hinge starting, with board holding firm. Armorial bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound, aside from frontispiece, which is detached but present. Pages bright and generally clean, with the odd light spot.     I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.
