His presentation copy is addressed to his friend Jacob Tabor and states 'I lately lit upon a spare copy of a little quarto I published as far back as 1840. Will you do me the great pleasure to accept it'. The wood cuts are from my own drawings by a Miss Byfield, well known in her day. She cut those excellent copies of Holbein, in 'The Dance of Death' by Francis Douce published by W Pickering in 1833'. I knew the old Bibliophile W.P well, and he took up my book with gusto.' The first and only edition of this work. With the bookplate of the recipient, Jacob Tabor. Illustrated, with a colour frontispiece, and numerous in-text illustrations by the author. CONDITION In the publisher's quarter straight grained morocco binding, with cloth covered boards. Externally, very smart, with light shelfwear to the head and tail of spine. Fading to the spine, and just the odd marks to the boards. Remnants of a prior owner's wax seal to the pastedowns. Prior owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. Letter from the author to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright, with just the odd spot to pages.
