Illustrated with eleven colour folding maps. This dictionary includes lists of gentry and nobility, clergy, merchants, bankers, professionals, manufacturers, and traders. Including historical sketches of each city, town, and village. Pigot's Directory was started in 1814 and covered Great Britain in the period before the Civil Registration officially began. It was a great source of information about nobility, gentry, trades, occupations, clergy, and public houses on each area. Collated, bound without the folding map for Wiltshire. Ninety-four pages of publisher's adverts to the rear. CONDITION In a full diced calf binding. Externally, generally smart, with light discolouration and marks to the leather. Minor rubbing to the boards and spine. Light bumping to the extremities. Spine label is a little rubbed and worn. A couple of small chips to the boards. Light damp stain to the head of the rear board. Hinges are starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very lightly age-toned and generally clean with scattered spots. Prior owner's ink inscription to the head of the title page. Bound without one folding map. Folding maps for Derbyshire and Warwickshire are edge worn, resulting in a small amount of loss.
