Description
This is a hand-held guide to the Church of England rituals, prayers, feast days, and orders for services (including the Queen's (Victoria) Accension). It also contains a New Testament. New Testament front page provides publishing data: William Collins, Paternoster Row, Glasgow, North Montrose Street, 1856. The biding is leather, with brass edges and a closure clasp. The clasp is marked "J. Blackwood". The leather pattern and spine title have been highlighted in gilt. I think, but am not certain, this volume has more than the usual "Book of Common Prayer" used in CofE services. Condition: Condition: Good giftable condition. Most notable issues: 1) front board beginning to detach (see photos #10 - #12) 2) Tear on 1st page as shown in photo #10, 3) Split on back board (see photo #13), 4) Gilt loss on spine making title difficult to read, 5) a few pages have discoloration (see example on photo #15 -- this is not widespread), 6) difficult to open fully, as I did not want to exacerbate board splitting, and 7) Light tanning of pages and edge gilt wear. Having said all that, I think this is in pretty good condition for its age. Pages are supple (not brittle and cracking). All pages present and tightly bound. No other tears or writing observed. Note: Book will be mailed by USPS media mail unless prior arrangement made with seller. Note that if other services are used, EBAY's shipping estimate will not be correct, and buyer should wait for an invoice. Dimensions: 4-1/8" Tall x 3” Wide x 1-7/8” Deep. Unpacked weight: 8 oz. Note some photos appear redundant because I take photos from all possible angles. On symmetrical items, these photos may appear redundant when there are no distinguishing differences or condition issues between side views. Remember, when buying vintage expect imperfections as these items have a history and have been in the possession of others. I try to list EVERY flaw which would be commented on something in an antique or vintage condition – this does not mean all imperfections resulting from normal wear & use require comment. My goal is to have no rude surprises upon receipt.
