Some of the recipes included vary from meat, poultry, salads, tarts, cold sweets, sandwiches, bread, jams, and icing. This is an interesting look at life in a Victorian household, and the running of it. Beeton's work was originally serialised as 'The Englishwoman's Domestic Magazine' in twenty-four monthly instalments in 'The Englishwoman's Domestic Magazine', her husband's publication. Her work has been constantly expanded over time, and is still in print. From the library of Jill Norman, an editor and food writer, with her bookplate to the recto of the front endpaper. Norman began working at Penguin in the early 1960s and, as the only woman, the care of the company's cookery books fell to her. It was her responsibility to expand the cookery titles Penguin produced, and thus began to publish works by Jane Grigson, Claudia Roden, and Alan Davidson. In particular Norman worked closely with the famed cookery writer Elizabeth David, with whom she was good friends. CONDITION In a rebacked quarter calf binding with cloth to the boards. I bought this for the copy's associations with a family I'm interested in, thanks to the suggestions about provenance in the seller's description. The description and photos told me all I needed to know about the book - clearly the right family, though I have my own view on the individual who owned it - but that is part of the fund of an old book. It arrived promptly - a couple of days' delay caused by UPS - safely packaged and a good price, I think.

Excellent in every respect; much better than originally described and pictured. The shipping was exceptionally fast, and the books arrived precisely on schedule. The packaging was both robust and thoughtful, which always makes a most distinct difference. I am grateful for this great value and for your having accepted my offer. Thank you so much for a truly pluperfect transaction.

The shipping was lightning fast, arriving in 3 days from UK to US. The book was packaged with extreme care, very important for an antique book. The overall condition of the book is also unbelievable for its age, even better than described. I’ve purchased numerous other books from this seller, and the quality and price have always been outstanding. Great eBay seller. Thanks!
