The second impression of this work, which was first published in 1958. Arranged alphabetically, Simon's work catalogues all manner of wines, spirits and liqueurs, providing detailed information on their manufacture, flavours, origins and regions. With an advertisement leaf to the rear. Simon was a wine merchant, gourmet, and prolific writer about wine, considered to be the 'charismatic leader of the English wine trade for almost all of the first half of the 20th century'. CONDITION In a full crushed morocco signed binding, with gilt detailing, gilt dentelles, and marbled endpapers. Light rubbing to rear joint, with a touch more rubbing to front joint. Fading to back strip, as is common with green morocco. Light horizontal line of rubbing towards front board tail. Internally, firmly bound. Pages exceptionally clean and bright.
