Description

This edition is a wonderful travel guide for the entire Florentine environment. Filled with rare colorized images as well as black and white. It would provide a perfect companion for visits to museums, churches and architectural sites. A curiosity I noted while photographing it for this listing, is that when I moved the ribbon page marker, it had been in the same untouched location for so long, it had left a fingerprint on the paper. A true untouched gem. This book and other travel documents were obtained and collected by my Great Grandparents CW Seamans & IG Seamans and grandparents EA Self and DS Self during the ubiqitous european trips of the late 1890s thru the late 1930's. Travel was by transatlantic liner, postcards were purchased as books to send correspondence home and photographs were developed before returning home by professional photographers. Taken in total, the novels, guidebooks, art books, postcards and travel ephemera provide a unique and comprehensive view of 2 generations of one families travels over a 40 year period - all before WWII. These pieces have been sitting untouched and unappreciated for 3 generations and I would like to share these unique snapshots in time with other people. Please feel free to contact me if you want additional information about the provenance and the other objects and items I have from these couples and this period of history
