Description

This is a limited edition, numbered ,528+ pages, illustrated, original Bavarian,German language, book titled, 'The Opened Sanctuary' by P. F. Hoger, S.J., J. A. de La Haye, printer. It is a religious text by P. Francisco Hoger S.J. , authorized by both the religious and secular authorities , published in 1725 in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany by Johann Andreas De La Haye. The book is in leather binding , vellum pages, and is a first edition. The text is about the sanctification of Christians and explanations of the wonder of God in his saints. It includes sermons for church festivals and other celebrations, presented for the benefit of the people. The book was published with the permission of both the religious authorities ( Superior of Jesuit Order) and the secular authority ( The Holy Roman Emperor). Von P Francisco Hoger, S.J., (1664-1727) was the author and preacher in the Baroque style. This style of oratory was characterized by abundance rather than concise values. This text reflects the author’s beliefs as expressed in a separate writing in 1720. He then advised the listeners of Catholic preachings to pay attention to three points: 1) listeners should possess a great desire for the word of God. 2) he should have a holy intention with reference to the sermon. 3) he should attempt to unite himself with God in prayer to the Holy Spirit. In the words of the preacher : “ the characteristics of a Christian listener, which he must bring with him to church and which must proceed the sermon; desire good intentions and prayer. The sermon has not yet com to an end with the ‘Amen’. If the believer attended the service with devotion and attention, than he has done his part, but if he merely listened to the sermon, then his duty is not yet at an end; he must also put into practice what he heard and learned in the sermon..” Johann Andreas de La Haye was both a publisher and bookseller between 1735-1746. This book used a Gutenberg type level press; that was known as xylography. Binding is referred to as somber binding, used between 1670-1725 to cover bibles and devotional books. Usually comprised of fine goatskin featuring tooling in blind. Vellum: high quality parchment, traditionally made from calfskin. This lovely porcelain clock was incredibly well wrapped for shipping and arrived in perfect condition. It's signed by the person who did the hand painting and shows real skill. The seller answered a question immediately and included more photos. The clock is just the finishing touch for a European room makeover, plus the seller has been a pleasure to do business with.

The shipping cost was on the label. I paid less for the shipping, than the seller was charged. The packing was exceptional! This vase has very delicate areas that could easily be damaged. No damage at all during shipping. The vase is more beautiful than I expected. A great value. It is sooo beautiful, thank you.
