Thompson published this book in 1976, when, as described in a section of the book entitled “The Author”: “The public’s rush to plant black walnut, following the skyrocketing prices that reached $13,500 for the lumber in a single tree, prompted the author, Bruce S. Thompson, to address the many problems (and their solutions) in this work Black Walnut for Profit – A Guide to Risks and Rewards. Having been active in the movement for many years, he has experienced much of the good and the bad that exists in this industry. Justifiably, he was convinced that his considerable knowledge would be of extreme interest and value to others who wanted to venture into the world of black walnut.” Of note – Inscribed / signed by author: The book was signed by the author, Bruce S. Thompson. It is inscribed by the author as follows: “To Norma, with warmest good wishes, Bruce Thompson.” Please see the photo of the inscription. We believe that this is an authentic signature as a postcard that was found inside the book bears an Iowa Falls address. We have included a copy of this postcard and obscured the names and addresses of the sender and recipient. We will include this postcard with the book. The boards (front and back covers) are dark green and leather-like in appearance. There is no dust jacket. The book is clean with no markings, folded or dog-eared pages, and very light shelf wear. The binding is intact and tight. There is light crimping at the bottom of the spine, and the bottom corners of both the front and back covers are slightly bumped; both appear to be from shelf wear. The book pages have some age-toning (tanning) at the page edges, but the pages are clean with no marks or writing inside. There is some very light wear to the book corners and spine ends.
