This book, authored by the ichthyologist Marcus Elieser Bloch (1723–1799), introduces approximately 200 species of fish known to the world at the time, accompanied by illustrations. Unlike traditional fish illustrations, which depicted fish lying on the ground, this book omits the background and focuses solely on precise depictions of the fish. These illustrations had a significant impact on later ichthyological works, making this book historically important in the field of fish classification and illustration.
